Pennsylvania car accidents: missionary killed, 3 injured

An accident occurred in Monroe Township that resulted in the death of one individual and injury to three others. A school bus collided with a vehicle that was carrying three out-of-state Latter Day Saints missionaries. When car accidents like these occur that result in the serious injury or death of Pennsylvania residents, they or their loved ones are typically entitled to file a personal injury suit — or wrongful death suit in the event of a death — against the responsible party.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on a recent Tuesday in February. The bus reportedly ran a stop sign, causing it to strike the passenger side of the other vehicle. One of the passengers, a 20-year-old woman, was killed.

Three other passengers of the struck vehicle were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries; however, one individual was being treated for serious injuries. Two of the students on the school bus were taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The collision also caused a telephone pole to split, resulting in a power outage for many residents.

The investigation regarding this car accident is ongoing. The injured passengers may decide to pursue civil claims against the school bus driver for any monetary damages they incurred, and the surviving family of the deceased woman may file a wrongful death claim. In the case that criminal charges are formally filed and the prosecutors are able to secure a conviction on a charge that is related to this accident, proof of guilt might be offered as evidence in any personal injury or wrongful death claims related to the crash. This could help to establish negligence on the part of the car driver, which is required before a civil court will assess whether an award of damages is appropriate. Individuals in Pennsylvania who are seriously injured in car accidents such as this typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assess the validity of the proposed personal injury claim and gain advice and guidance throughout the entirety of the claims process, which may sometimes involve litigation in the civil justice system.
