Though fun, amusement rides can be dangerous

In certain parts of the country, including the state of Pennsylvania, the warm temperatures that come with summer make it possible for residents to participate in outdoor activities that are unavailable other times of the year. One of the most exciting for many children is attending carnivals or amusement parks. Much of the time these rides work as intended. When something goes wrong however, the injuries can be devastating.

Recent Injuries

Three girls in another state (Tennessee) were recently injured when the Ferris wheel car in which they were riding appeared to get caught, dumping them out and causing them to fall between 40 and 50 feet, to the ground. According to an eyewitness, the three girls struck the ride’s metal bridging on the way down.

All three survived the incident though they were all transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Though the nature and extent of their injuries is unclear, two of the three were transported via helicopter.

Safety expectations

There is no question that most people go on amusement rides for the thrill. That said, there is an expectation that the thrill will be controlled and not result in the infliction of injury. When a serious injury does occur, the aftermath can be difficult to face. The focus of most people who find themselves in this situation is securing the treatment necessary to recover to the best degree. That treatment is often expensive and the injured party, or those responsible for their care, could struggle to cover those expenses.

In situations where the negligence of another party is to blame for the injuries, it may be possible to recoup damages via a personal injury lawsuit. A lawyer who handles cases of this nature could be of assistance.
