Man suffers heart damage, sues for medical malpractice
Nearly six years after an out-of-state man allegedly suffered heart damage, an out-of-state jury recently began the process of deliberation to answer the question of who will be held accountable for the man’s injury. The man alleges he suffered heart damage due to the fact that a local hospital failed to send his blood test results to his doctor. The suit was filed in 2012. The 71-year old man and his 63-year-old wife sued the hospital, the man’s physician and the regional hospital where the doctor is employed. The suit goes on to allege that roughly eight months later emergency heart surgery was performed on him at a regional medical center in Maine. The was done in an attempt to repair heart damage that the couple alleges could have possibly been avoided if his treatment had begun when his blood test was completed. The hospital admitted to making a mistake. The attorney representing the couple estimated that the incurred damages total between $3 million and $3.7 million — this includes almost $294,000 in medical expenses, and the remainder was allocated for his pain and suffering.
