Motorcycle accidents: 1 killed, others injured in Pennsylvania

When motorcyclists go out for a ride or travel long distances, it is not unusual to see many motorcycles traveling together. Though this caravan formation may help other drivers see the motorcyclists more easily, motorcycle accidents could still occur. When a car crashes into a group of motorcycles, there is potential for multiple individuals to be seriously injured or killed.

It was recently reported that such an accident took place in Pennsylvania. Reports stated that several motorcycles were traveling together when three of those motorcycles were hit by a vehicle. It was unclear how many motorcyclists in total may have been in the group. Apparently, the driver of the car was traveling west and failed to remain in the correct lane. As a result, the car crossed the dividing line and into the group of motorcyclists.

The accident resulted in one fatality and five other individuals being injured, including the driver of the car. The deceased individual was reported as being a 51-year-old woman who was a passenger on one of the motorcycles. Four other motorcyclists were transported from the scene to be treated for injuries. It was unclear what the severity of the other injuries may have been.

Unfortunately, this type of outcome is often seen in motorcycle accidents. Because a death occurred and multiple other individuals were injured, civil legal action could possibly be taken against the driver considered at fault. The family of the decedent may wish to look into filing a wrongful death claim while the other injured parties may consider personal injury claims of their own. Successful claims could allow those individuals to be awarded compensation for damages permitted under Pennsylvania law.
