Pennsylvania motorcycle accidents: Man killed, woman injured

Many motorcyclists are often more on guard than other travelers on the roadways. Because these drivers and riders are more at risk of serious injury, staying on guard can be a step toward staying safe. Unfortunately, even the most observant individual cannot predict the actions of other drivers, and as a result, numerous motorcycle accidents take place every year.

One such accident recently took place in Pennsylvania. Reports stated that an 82-year-old woman who was driving a van south made a U-turn by driving over a concrete median in the roadway and into the northbound lanes. After this action, a northbound motorcycle carrying two individuals crashed into the back of the van. A 53-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were reported as being on the motorcycle.

The man suffered fatal injuries in the incident. The woman was transported from the scene, and she was considered to be in serious condition at the time of the report. The driver of the van was not injured. Authorities were continuing to investigate the accident to determine whether the U-turn may have been a direct cause of the crash.

The causes of motorcycle accidents can play a significant role in the events that take place after such crashes. If the U-turn is determined to have caused this Pennsylvania incident, civil claims could potentially be filed against the driver of the van. The deceased victim’s family may wish to consider filing a wrongful death claim, and the seriously injured woman may wish to file a personal injury claim of her own.
